LIGNA is the world’s leading trade fair for the forestry and wood industries, as well as for wood processing and woodworking. The event takes place every two years at the Hannover Exhibition Center (Hannover Messegelände), one of the largest and most modern exhibition venues in the world, covering around one million square meters.
LIGNA is organized by Deutsche Messe AG in cooperation with the Woodworking Machinery Association within the VDMA. This partnership ensures a high-quality, professionally organized platform tailored to the needs of industry professionals.
The event focuses on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability across the entire spectrum of the sector, including forestry and sawmill technology, solid wood processing, furniture manufacturing, woodworking, and the production of wood-based materials and veneers. It features hands-on live demonstrations of cutting-edge machines and systems.
LIGNA includes themed areas such as LIGNA.CONNECTIVITY, which explores digital networking across the value chain; LIGNA.SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION, highlighting resource-efficient production methods; and LIGNA.ENGINEERED WOOD, showcasing engineered wood products for sustainable construction. Additional formats include LIGNA.Circular, addressing circular economy approaches in the wood industry, and LIGNA.TruckStop, an interactive platform with live demos and networking opportunities.
LIGNA is more than just a trade fair—it serves as a global marketplace for knowledge exchange, business development, and sustainable momentum in the woodworking industry. The event attracts professional visitors and the general public.
The fair location is the Hannover Messegelände, located at Messe Hannover, 30521 Hanover, Lower Saxony. The event covers a wide range of product groups, including forestry machines, sawing machines, woodworking machines, and wood handling systems.
LIGNA is part of the broader Forestry & Wood Products sector and is associated with industries such as the Timber Industry and Agricultural Machinery. The event has a significant international scope, attracting exhibitors and visitors from around the world.
